Summary:
Citizen participation and science are essential if we are to achieve the major global targets set out in the Kunming Agreement in Montréal (COP15). The data collected by citizens, thanks to digital devices such as Ecosense or Canari, can be invaluable to research players in advancing knowledge of environmental and ecosystem health. They are also invaluable in guiding action and ensuring that projects put in place (such as urban green corridors) have quantifiable impacts on ecosystems and, by extension, on public health. What tools do we have at our disposal? Which ones are missing? How can we promote the use of these tools to enhance citizen capacity-building, while at the same time reducing the threats to biodiversity and ecosystems, of which humans are also a part?
An initiative from :
The Université de Montréal Innovation Lab’s Construire l’avenir durablement project brings together multidisciplinary players to reflect and act on major sustainability issues and help achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. By adopting a systemic perspective, CLAD offers a unique venue for members of the university community and partners to connect skills and knowledge and co-construct innovative research and training projects.
